Andreas Scherles’ Top Class Wines of Germany
Andreas Scherles' recommendations “The tops of Germany”
Here I recommend many of my favorite winemakers and their wines, which in my opinion are among the best on the German wine scene.
They characterize the German wine culture through natural cultivation on mostly very stony soils with an unmistakable character.
As a wine lover, you have to have tasted the wines of these top winemakers at least once to see and taste how great German wines can be.
Jakob Schneider’s crystal-clear Rieslings have inspired me in recent years in particular:

Andreas Scherle, Laura & Jakob Schneider
Winery
Jakob Schneider
Niederhausen, Nahe
Since 1575, it has been the home of the Jakob Schneider family and winery, which is one of the most traditional businesses in the Nahe region.
Seit 1575 ist es die Heimat der Familie und des Weingutes Jakob Schneider, welches zu den traditionsreichsten Betrieben der Nahe zählt. Jakob Schneider has been producing high-quality wines from steep slopes here since 1901, now in its 3rd generation.
The company cultivates 18 hectares of vines. These are 85 percent planted with Riesling – the family’s great passion. There are 52 rock formations in the vineyards alone, mainly of volcanic origin, but there is also slate and river sediment in the subsoil.
Jakob Schneider Junior is responsible for the development of the wines in the cellar and the care of the vineyards. Based on the latest findings, he always works closely with the individual challenges of the vintage in order to bring out the special characteristics of each individual vineyard. Year after year, he decides with a great deal of experience and intuition when which work is to be carried out and ensures that the vineyards are optimally and sustainably cared for.
For me, the Rieslings from the 2021 vintage in particular are among the best in Germany.
All renowned wine guides honour the
Jakob Schneider winery with top ratings from
His Rieslings, characterised by volcanic rock and slate soil, impress with complexity, minerality and always an animating acidity structure.
We have had Jakob Schneider’s wines in our range for over 10 years and the quality inspires me anew every year.
